The terms of the agreement remain undisclosed nearly one day after the announcement to conclude the conflict, with leaders scheduled to arrive in Switzerland on Friday.
A senior US official stated on Monday that President Donald Trump and Vice-President J.D. Vance had electronically signed the memorandum of understanding with Iran to officially reopen the Strait of Hormuz and terminate the American blockade of Iranian ports.
The official further asserted that Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf signed the document on behalf of Tehran.
Trump “wanted to sign it personally because he wanted to show his dedication to the process and dedication to seeing this through to a successful resolution”, the official added, speaking on condition of anonymity.
According to US officials, the formal signing ceremony will still occur on Friday in Switzerland.
Speaking to reporters during a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Evian, France, Trump indicated that the Strait was already partially open and would be “completely open” by Friday.
