Bausili and Gongsheng exchanged perspectives on the global economic and financial landscape and examined the functioning of the international monetary system, according to the Argentine central bank.
The two officials also addressed collaboration between central banks during a period described by the institution as one of growing financial interconnectedness.
Buenos Aires has publicly rejected the idea that the swap's renewal was under consideration. However, the national news outlet Noticias Argentinas reported that talks aimed at extending the agreement were moving forward, with only procedural steps left before any deal could be finalized.
Neither government has publicly confirmed whether the framework agreement, set to expire on August 6, will be extended. For Argentina, this arrangement functions less as a debt and more as a safeguard—a source of yuan it can utilize to bolster reserves and finance imports from China, its second-largest trading partner after Brazil.
